Saturday Blitz Big Ten Power Rankings Week 2

9. Maryland Terrapins 2-0 (0-0), Defeated South Florida 24-17 Last Week

The Terps were lucky to escape South Florida with a victory Saturday, but being able to do that after all the mistakes they made could mean they are better than we thought. When you can overcome 6 turnovers for a 24-17 win, that means two things: your defense is awesome, and your offense can move the ball if it doesn’t mess up.

C.J. Brown played absolutely terrible Saturday but managed 2 touchdowns and 200 passing yards despite 2 interceptions and multiple fumbles. That could spell good news for the Terps the rest of this season if they finally take care of the football. And right now winning big immediately in the Big Ten doesn’t seem far-fetched the way it once did.

But if this is a trend, then Maryland could be in trouble and become the whipping boys of the conference. We’ll find out a lot more on this Maryland football team this Saturday when West Virginia comes to town. If they pull that win off, then we’ll find out even more when the Terps travel to the Carrier Dome to play Syracuse next.

And then Big Ten play starts. This team is No. 9 in the conference right now for struggling against South Florida, but it has a great chance to move up quickly.
