Saturday Blitz Week 2 ACC Power Rankings

13. Syracuse Orange 1-0 (0-0), Idle Last Weekend

The Syracuse Orange were supposed to be better this year and building off head coach Scott Shafer’s inaugural 7-6 season, but their overtime victory two weeks ago at Villanova hints they might be going the other direction, which is why they are right now next to last on this ACC list.

The Orange were at home and only beat the Wildcats because they went for 2 and failed at the end to keep from going into a third overtime. With that as the only game on the resume, Syracuse has not yet done enough to move anywhere significant on this list.

And with a game against Central Michigan this week, it’s likely not to change much because the Chippewas aren’t that good of a team, despite what they did to Purdue. The real test starts the next week against Maryland, and the weeks after that ACC play begins, including Notre Dame as an opponent.

We’ll know just how good the Orange are soon enough, but it was embarrassing for them to struggle like that against Villanova, and since this is a bye week, they can’t move up yet.
