Saturday Blitz Vegas SEC Predictions Week 3

Kentucky Wildcats at Florida Gators

Line: Florida by 18.5

Are the Florida Gators on a mission? In un-Will Muschamp-like fashion, they simply destroyed Eastern Michigan in what turned out to be their opener as Jeff Driskel threw 45 times for 248 yards in the victory while backup Treon Harris might have had the best quarterback rating ever: 2 passes, both of which went for 70-yard touchdowns. This team did not let up even with the second and third stringers in and might be looking to show the world that it is back and last year was a fluke. The rest of the college football world had better take notice. In order to beat Kentucky, they’ll want to rely on the balanced attack they used last Saturday and the home crowd to keep the Wildcats from making this close. But that might be much harder than it would have appeared last year or the year before.

The Wildcats look really good in Mark Stoops’s second year so far, so perhaps the great recruiting has paid off. An upset Saturday would do wonders for the program. If the Wildcats are going to pull it off, they need to find a way to force Driskel into making a few mistakes, which he can be prone to doing as well as the rest of the Florida offense, and the Kentucky secondary looked really good Saturday. The offense, meanwhile, will want to stay balanced and rely on a good passing game and very deep running game to pull out the win, but it will have to have a much better showing than it did against Ohio. If Kentucky can find a way to score first with a turnover and take the crowd out of the game early, then this could easily become a major SEC upset.

Prediction

Kentucky will give Florida a game for a little while, but it won’t matter in the long run. The Gators will continue to show their determination to make amends for last year and pull away in the second half with a very balanced attack and a suffocating defense, proving what they can do with Driskel behind center. This might look like an offense reminiscent of the Spurrier days on Saturday.
