Nebraska Cornhuskers at Fresno State Bulldogs

Nebraska is lucky to be 2-0 after surviving a game that should never have been close against McNeese State. Luckily for the Cornhuskers, the game did show signs of life, including playmaking abilities among the receivers and a strong running game. The Huskers will need both throughout the year if they are finally going to break free with Bo Pelini and get over that 4-loss hump that has plagued them since 2008. They will also have to do this Saturday as they travel on the road to Fresno State against a team that isn’t scared of competition.

The Bulldogs are still having trouble replacing Derek Carr, but the biggest issue is how bad the defense has been. After giving up more than 50 points the first two games, perhaps they can be a bit better against a team that can be inconsistent on offense at times, especially at quarterback. If the Bulldogs can use that to their advantage and force a few Bulldogs turnovers, then they could come out with a very impressive upset Saturday.

Prediction

Last Saturday was a wake-up call for Nebraska, and the Cornhuskers won’t slip up again. They have too much talent. This will be a blowout for Nebraska like its first game was, so don’t expect anything special just because McNeese State gave them a game. That meant nothing. Nebraska wins this easily.
