Saturday Blitz Vegas Big Ten Predictions Week 3

Minnesota Golden Gophers at TCU Horned Frogs

Line: TCU by 14

The TCU Horned Frogs are coming off a bye week after dismantling Samford 48-14 in their opening game. There wasn’t much to read into that except for the fact that TCU could definitely be back to winning very quickly as it finally may be finding itself in the Big 12. A mobile quarterback in Trevone Boykin who can kill the defense throwing the ball is what will be needed to beat Minnesota on Saturday, and this will be more of an offensive game than you would expect from a Big Ten team going up against a team coached by Gary Patterson.

Minnesota, in Jerry Kill’s fourth year, is trying to take another major leap after going 8-5 last year and moving to 2-0 with a 35-24 win over Middle Tennessee last Saturday. The Gophers will want to rely on the running game heavily with David Cobb against a Horned Frogs defense that looked a little weaker up front than in the secondary two weeks ago. If Cobb can match his 200-plus yard outing last week, than this game could go in favor of Minnesota. Otherwise, the Golden Gophers will finally have to show that they have made major improvements on defense.

Prediction

Minnesota will rely on the running game an opportunistic defense to beat TCU in Texas this Saturday, which will be a big upset in the Big 12. This week we are obviously still showing our faith in the Big Ten teams, but the Golden Gophers have the talent and the running game to win Saturday. It will happen.
