The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets always appear as if they are going to fall off the ledge for a bad season, but once again they look like they are hanging on in Paul Johnson’s seventh season. Clearly there’s something to that triple-option that works as the Yellow Jackets used it to beat Tulane 38-21 last week and move to 2-0 on the season. Now they’re caught in another trap game as Georgia Southern comes to town.
This is a Georgia Southern team that nearly beat N.C. State this year and did beat Florida last year with a rush-heavy offense of its own. That might not bode well for a Georgia Tech defense that has struggled at times defending the run and the pass. The Yellow Jackets will have to be careful that they don’t get caught off guard. Georgia Southern will look to run the ball heavily, and both teams will try to win the time of possession battle.
Prediction
Georgia Southern will give the Yellow Jackets a huge scare the same way they have been doing against Power Five teams, but Georgia Tech will pull the game out at home in a similar way that N.C. State did. It will be a very quick game with both teams running the ball a lot, but it will also be exciting.
