1. Tyler Murphy, Quarterback, Boston College Eagles (Defeated No. 9 USC Trojans 37-31)

13 Carries for 191 Yards, 1 Touchdown; 5 of 13 Passing for 54 yards

This is a rare time when a quarterback with such bad passing numbers gets on a list of top performers, reminiscent of the Nebraska triple-option days. Quarterback Tyler Murphy used his legs to stun USC Saturday night in a win that nobody saw coming. Murphy led the Eagles as they put the college football world on notice that they are still relevant.

Part of Murphy’s success belongs to that Boston College offensive line, which did not allow the Trojans in the backfield all night and paved the way for 452 total rushing yards. But Murphy was the leader of the pack and injected lots of momentum back into the Boston College football program. Forget Doug Flutie, Tyler Murphy is the man on campus right now.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Steve Addazio and the Eagles. Now it’s a year to build off of last season. Murphy is the reason for that thanks to his performance in a major upset Saturday night. This was also coming off a very disappointing loss to Pittsburgh at home last week.

For the season, Murphy has very mediocre passing numbers but he now has 401 rushing yards through three games. Take notice ACC.
