2. Clint Trickett, Quarterback, West Virginia Mountaineers (Defeated Maryland Terrapins 40-37 Saturday)

37 of 49 for 511 yards, 4 touchdowns

In a game where West Virginia literally did everything it could to lose, Clint Trickett was the one thing that carried the Mountaineers to victory Saturday in College Park, Md. The defense, special teams, and skill players all struggled in different ways, but Trickett put this team on his back and carried WVU to victory over a very good Terps team.

Remember this was a Terps defense that shut down South Florida last week and carried its team to victory despite 6 turnovers by the offense. It’s also a defense that can shut down one side of the field in the passing game thanks to cornerback Will Likely. But Trickett, with one side shut off, still picked apart the Terps secondary for more than 500 yards as West Virginia had nearly 700 yards of total offense.

Then, backed up in his own territory late in the fourth quarter, the Terps were playing to get the ball back for the win while West Virginia was thinking overtime. Trickett changed all of that and led a drive into Maryland territory to set up the game-winning field goal for the Mountaineers. Take note college football, Trickett is for real.

He had to very good games against Alabama and then Towson, throwing for more than 300 yards each. After his game against Maryland, with more than 500 yards, Trickett could be working his way into the Heisman conversation very soon.
