Blitz Points: College Football Top Performers From Week 3
4. Dylan Thompson, Quarterback, South Carolina Gamecocks (Defeated Georgia Bulldogs 38-35 Saturday)
21 of 30 for 271 yards and 3 touchdowns
After facing heavy criticism and accuracy issues in his team’s blowout loss to Texas A&M to start the season, Dylan Thompson was the best player on the South Carolina offense Saturday afternoon. He completed 70 percent of his passes and threw for 3 touchdowns, keeping the Gamecocks ahead as the defense struggled to hold on.
While he did have one interception that nearly cost the game, Thompson’s overall good outweighs his bad from Saturday, so he belongs on this list. This was a very tough environment to play well in as Thompson was going up against a Georgia team that is supposed to be very experienced and loaded on defense. But every time Georgia would score to make the game close, Thompson seemed to have an answer on offense.
Perhaps the best play in the game for Thompson was determined by a chain link. Thompson’s quarterback sneak on fourth and inches with little time left could have been disastrous if he didn’t convert. Because he did, the Gamecocks were able to walk away with a victory in one of the closest measurements in college football history.
