7. Ian Frye, Kicker, Virginia Cavaliers (Defeated No. 21 Louisville Cardinals 23-21)

3 for 3 on field goals with a long of 47 yards

That’s right, we’re putting a kicker on this list. Ian Frye showed how clutch he is in Virginia’s huge upset over Louisville Saturday afternoon. It’s one thing to kick a long field goal to win when you’re locked in a tie game. It’s another to have to kick one beyond 40 yards as a college kid when if you miss, you probably lost your team the game.

Frye was perfect on field goals and nailed two kicks beyond 40 yards, which is why he belongs on this list. For as much of a gimmick as kicking is in football, it can’t be slighted how crucial a kicker that always comes through is. Frye made all 3 field goals and both extra points, which may not seem like much but was the difference here.

With Virginia struggling on offense and the defense playing so well, Frye was going to have to come up big for the Cavaliers to pull off the upset. Without him they don’t win this game, and for that, he deserves a spot on the Week 3 Saturday Blitz Blitz Points list. He was definitely a top performer.
