8. Anthony Harris, Cornerback, Virginia Cavaliers (Defeated No. 21 Louisville Cardinals 23-21)

1 interception, 5 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles

Like Frye, the Virginia defense was going to have to come up huge for the Cavaliers to pull of this upset with the offense struggling so much. Like Frye, the defense did. Against a high-powered Bobby Petrino offense that didn’t appear to miss a beat with the new coaching change, Mike London’s defense forced for turnovers and held the Cardinals to 282 yards of total offense.

Anthony Harris was the leader of the group. The senior cornerback had a crucial interception at one point and had 5 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles. While the unit as a whole deserves lots of praise since it was truly a team effort, somebody had to get the Blitz Points award, and Harris stood out.

Now, Virginia is in prime position to prove it is ready to get back to a bowl game, and the defense is the reason for that. Don’t forget that this defense has been good enough to take this team to 3-0 as it held UCLA to 7 points in the opener. With Harris one of the leaders of the secondary, this is a very strong group.
