Upset Saturday: Week 3 Shakes Up Saturday Blitz Top 25
5. Florida State Seminoles: 2-0 (0-0), Idle Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 7
The Seminoles didn’t play this past week but still managed to look much better after Oklahoma State’s blowout win over Texas-San Antonio. Now, the close game with the Cowboys to start the season doesn’t look nearly as bad given how well the team has played since then. Now the fun begins with a big game against Clemson this week. But after that, there doesn’t appear to be any team capable of beating FSU. We can almost book them for the playoff.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide: 3-0 (0-0), Defeated Southern Miss 52-12 Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 6
Like Florida State, Alabama looks much better with its win over West Virginia than anybody would have predicted at the beginning of the year. The Mountaineers appear to have a great offense and an incredible quarterback after beating Maryland in College Park over the weekend, so a 10-point win over them with a new quarterback to open the season from the Tide’s perspective is nothing to be embarrassed about now.
3. LSU Tigers: 3-0 (0-0), Defeated Louisiana-Monroe 31-0 Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 3
The Tigers haven’t changed from where they belong after blowing out Louisiana-Monroe over the weekend. They didn’t beat anybody but still belong as one of the top 3 teams after Wisconsin is looking more and more like a quality win. This is a loaded defense that looks like a typical LSU defense and could dominate SEC teams based on the way it has played so far. Les Miles’s squad looks as deep as ever right now.
2. Oregon Ducks: 3-0 (0-0), Defeated Wyoming 48-14 Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 1
The Ducks continue to look like they’re a national championship-caliber team and appear to be far and away the best team in the Pac 12 as Marcus Mariota continues to lead them. Michigan State remains a very quality win, and Wyoming was no mid-major slouch. The Cowboys are turning a corner with Craig Bohl at the helm. Unfortunately for Oregon, they dropped to No. 2 in our rankings but not because of anything they did. The No. 1 team just appears to have the best quality win of anybody right now.
1. Texas A&M Aggies: 3-0 (1-0), Defeated Rice 38-10 Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 2
The Aggies have earned their return to the No. 1 spot, but not because of their blowout win over Rice. Honestly, that was a little underwhelming. What stands out is how good their blowout win over South Carolina looks now after the Gamecocks beat Georgia on Saturday. That’s not the only statement. The Gamecocks beat East Carolina in week 2, who beat Virginia Tech this past weekend, so they are actually appearing to be a very good team right back in the thick of the playoff race. And Texas A&M destroyed them. For now, that’s still the best win any team in college football has had so far.
