Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings Week 3

8. American Athletic Conference (AAC)

Apologies ahead of time to everybody in this conference, but it’s not a power football conference. No matter how you slice it in any way, it’s just not that good.

It would appear the AAC deserved a jump after East Carolina represented the conference well with a huge upset win over Virginia Tech. That was a strong enough win to say that there are good teams in the conference that would be able to compete in Power Five conferences. But then you have to factor in that Houston lost to BYU, Cincinnati barely beat Toledo, Boise State beat Connecticut, and Florida Atlantic beat Tulsa.

N.C. State could have been an upset win for South Florida, but instead the Bulls got blown out and looked like they had no business being on the same field. And UCF could have at least given Missouri a game the way it did to Penn State in Ireland. But the Tigers blew the Knights out of the stadium.

As of right now, the AAC has done nothing to prove it belongs with the Power Five, as it can’t even sell itself as the best non-Power Five conference. How about move up a couple of spots before fans of teams in the AAC try to make that claim again?
