Saturday Blitz Week 3 SEC Power Rankings

5. South Carolina Gamecocks, 2-1 (1-1), Defeated Georgia Bulldogs 38-35 Last Saturday

This is a very different South Carolina team than the one that came out of the gates losing to Texas A&M. Not that they weren’t a good team then, but Dylan Thompson has shown much better accuracy over the past two games, and the defense finally appears to be adjusting to the 3-4 switch. The blowout home loss says more about the Aggies right now than it does about the Gamecocks.

Their 38-35 win over Georgia is an incredible quality win and puts them in the driver’s seat of the SEC East race, and last week’s win over East Carolina now looks like a good win as well since the Pirates just upset Virginia Tech. Through three games, South Carolina has played the toughest schedule of anybody in the SEC and has come out of it 2-1. The Gamecocks finally get a break with Vanderbilt next week, but then Missouri is up.

October will be a much easier slate for South Carolina with Furman, Kentucky, and a bye week on the schedule, but they also play Auburn in that month as well. The schedule will never be easy for the Gamecocks, but they now have a great chance to move further up this list if they keep winning. Georgia is a very good win.
