SEC West Dominates in Week 3 SEC Power Rankings
Saturday Blitz Week 3 SEC Power Rankings
12. Kentucky Wildcats, 2-1 (0-1), Lost to Florida Gators 36-30 in OT Last Saturday
The Kentucky Wildcats could be back to bowling more quickly than we thought. Mark Stoops is clearly building something in Lexington, and it showed Saturday as the Wildcats came so close to beating the Gators in Gainesville. This team has looked very good through three games and is already a significant improvement over last year, but for now they have to be near the bottom of the SEC Power Rankings list.
The Wildcats don’t have any quality wins to speak of yet. They’re ahead of Tennessee because they played Florida closer than Tennessee played Oklahoma, but that’s a questionable reason to vault them up given how much better Oklahoma appears to be. Ohio and UT-Martin are their only two wins, which don’t match the Vols two wins against Arkansas State and Utah State. The fact that Kentucky has to be put in consideration for second to worst team in the conference shows that the Wildcats aren’t ready to move toward the top of the SEC yet.
The Wildcats have a bright future and look like they have a good program coming together under Mark Stoops. Unfortunately for them, so does the rest of the SEC.
