Saturday Blitz Vegas SEC Predictions

No. 5 Auburn Tigers at No. 20 Kansas State Wildcats

Line: Auburn by 9

Here is some exciting SEC vs. Big 12 football. Old school option vs. new school option. Wanting to shut Bob Stoops up vs. wanting to prove him right. Auburn and Gus Malzahn are continuing to win and win big with their offense, the same way they won last year, so this team can’t be slept on. A game Thursday night against a great Kansas State offense with the Tigers suspect defense will be exciting to see. Auburn will want to make sure it uses that high-powered rushing attack with Nick Marshall and Cameron Artis-Payne to torch the Wildcats, but it will also need Marshall to be effective throwing the ball. If those two things don’t happen, Kansas State could very easily pull off the upset at home.

The Wildcats struggled two weeks ago against Iowa State, but they gave up a big play on special teams that allowed it to be closer than it was and regrouped pretty well in the second half. They have a pretty good rushing attack too with Jake Waters, and they’ll want to use his dual-threat abilities along with Tyler Lockett’s playmaking abilities at receiver to try to get the best of Auburn. The defense is fine and looked much better than the 28 points it actually surrendered to the Cyclones two weeks ago, but stopping Auburn’s high-powered attack will still be difficult, especially with them coming off a bye week. The final thing Kansas State will have to do is cut down on penalties after it had 10 for 77 yards last game.

Prediction

The bye week is what will be the biggest difference. Kansas State and Auburn could have been locked in a head to head battle that would be a toss-up, but coming off of a bye week, Auburn will pull it out pretty comfortably. They are simply better than the Wildcats everywhere, and Snyder’s familiarity with Marshall won’t help. This game will be over by the beginning of the fourth quarter.
