Saturday Blitz Vegas ACC Predictions Week 4

Virginia Cavaliers at No. 21 BYU Cougars

Line: BYU by 14.5

The BYU Cougars have finally gained some respect as an independent team, squeezing their way into the Top 25 thanks to a dominant rushing attack and a great defense. Now they face a surprisingly good Virginia Cavaliers team at home Saturday, and look for them to continue what they’ve been doing. The biggest goal for the Cougars has to be to run the ball a lot and very effectively and take away any chances Virginia has of forcing turnovers. They also need to force that Virginia offense into making a few mistakes because Virginia’s defense can be tough to beat. The Cougars need a few gifts.

The Virginia Cavaliers have finally gained respect throughout the college football world after playing UCLA tough and beating Louisville. This is a team that has a great defense with just enough of an offense to be good. Against a great BYU rushing attack, they’ll have to really put their defense on display because so far it’s mostly the pass defense that has looked good. If they can stop the BYU rushing attack, the offense has to find a way to move the ball and score some points without turning it over against a very good BYU team. If they don’t turn the ball over and stop the BYU rushing attack, they’ll pull off the upset.

Prediction

Virginia’s rush defense is not proven enough yet to bet on them in a road game against the high-powered BYU rushing attack. They’re going to have lots of trouble stopping the Cougars, and Virginia will unfortunately not be able to get anything going on offense. They’ll score some thanks to a few nice defensive plays that put the offense in good field position, but it won’t be enough to win.
