The Marshall Thundering Herd have picked up where they left off from last year, when they went 10-4, won the Conference USA East, and beat Maryland in the Military Bowl. This year, Marshall has started 3-0 and now won 8 straight regular season games. This is a very balanced team that is 17th in passing and 15th in rushing in the country and put up more than 40 points in each of its first three wins against Miami (Ohio), Rhode Island, and Ohio. Now it has its third game against a MAC opponent from Ohio this weekend and will be looking to move to 4-0 on the year with a win before conference play begins.
Akron hasn’t looked bad at 1-1 this year so far after blowing out Howard and playing Penn State close into the second half before losing ultimately 21-3. The Zips have shown themselves to have a good passing offense and a great defense, which will be key to them pulling off the upset if they are to stop a balanced, juggernaut Marshall offense. Playing at home, though, the upset is possible.
