In a year in which the Northwestern Wildcats were supposed to bounce back and get back to regular winning seasons under Pat Fitzgerald, an 0-2 start was the last thing the fan base, coaches, and players had to have in mind. But after a week off, perhaps the Wildcats have found a way to regroup and are back in the mix. A home game against Western Illinois is a good start to get things going and back on a roll, but given the way they have looked the past two weeks, Fitzgerald’s squad can’t take things lightly. They desperately need this win for the sake of the program.
The Western Illinois Leathernecks have looked good en route to a 2-1 start. Their loss was bad, but that’s because it was against Wisconsin. This FCS school is 2-0 in its two FCS games, and the offense has looked great both times. That’s something that should cause the Wildcats to take notice, especially after they struggled with what was supposed to be a bad California Golden Bears team to open up the season. The Wildcats need Saturday to get back on track.
