On college football’s biggest stage in the toughest environment at night, Mississippi State and Dan Mullen proved they belong with the other good teams in the SEC West. And Dak Prescott was the reason for that. Prescott, who has been a dark-horse Heisman candidate up to this point, burst onto the scene as a legitimate Heisman candidate. It’s not dark-horse, it’s out in the open. And it speaks volumes about him that one of his best games so far has come against such a great defense in LSU and playing at LSU at night, by far the toughest place to play in college football.
Prescott had a touchdown pass to give the Bulldogs the lead, then, with LSU coming back after being down 17-0 and making it 17-10 to gain momentum, Prescott took over and broke the game open. He first broke off a 56-yard run to extend the lead to 24-10. Then he threw a 74-yards touchdown pass to make it a three-score game and a blowout. After that, all the Bulldogs had to do was hold on, and that’s exactly what they did. Prescott has now launched Mississippi State onto the national college football stage, and his Bulldogs haven’t lost since last November.
