Eddie Goldman’s contributions to the Florida State victory over Clemson can’t be measured just by the stat line, although a sack and a forced fumble on separate plays is pretty impressive. The key for Goldman is when they came, and that’s why he’s so high on our Blitz Points list. Look at when he racked up both of those stats, and what was facing Florida State at the time when they were playing a tough night game without their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.
With the ball in Clemson’s hands after a Sean Maguire interception in Florida State territory and a chance for the Tigers to win the game with under 2 minutes to go, Goldman came up huge and stripped the ball from C.J. Davidson to give FSU a chance at overtime. Then, in overtime, he picked up a huge sack to force Clemson into a third and long situation. When the Tigers turned that into a 4th and 1 and decided to go for it, Goldman made his biggest play. Without picking up a stat, he pushed his way into the backfield and hit Adam Choice as the ball was handed to him, which slowed him down just enough for two other guys to stop him behind the line. Goldman put the entire team on his shoulders as a defensive tackle late in this game and made three huge plays that won the game for Florida State. And for that, he belongs at the top of this list.
