Melvin Gordon didn’t change any game. He didn’t play anybody worth noting, especially when it comes to the Falcons on defense. And this game was never close. But the numbers he put up are so incredible that he can’t be left off of our Blitz Points list for this week. They have shot him up on the Heisman talks, and he led the Badgers to a record-setting day on the ground en route to 644 total team rushing yards. Gordon picked up 253 of those yards, and he was pulled out of the game early in the third quarter. He also put up a remarkable 5 touchdowns on the ground, breaking off runs of 69, 50, and 21 yards for scores.

This was an all-around incredible performance, and the numbers alone put him on this list. Lots of credit also has to go to the Badgers offensive line obviously, but there was no answer for Gordon all night. And if we are going to talk a little bit about changing the game, Bowling Green actually kept it close through the first half of the first quarter, and with the two tied at 7, Gordon hadn’t touched the ball. Then he had a touchdown run to make it 14-7. That was still his only touch after Bowling Green made it 14-10. Next drive: a 40-yard run by Gordon, and in the second quarter alone he had 8 carries for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns, breaking the game open.
