Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings Week 4

8. Conference USA

The Conference USA was looking good for a few weeks, but now it’s back to what we expected it to be. Southern Miss had an impressive win for the conference against Appalachian State this past weekend, North Texas impressed everybody by putting up 77 points, and Marshall is dominating the way you would expect Marshall to. But there are questions everywhere else and not enough good teams to make up for it.

Louisiana Tech had the biggest embarrassment for the conference after losing at home to Northwestern State. Middle Tennessee’s blowout loss to Memphis didn’t help either, although Memphis is a better team than people might expect. And the same holds true for Florida Atlantic losing to Wyoming, although Craig Bohl is clearly changing the culture with the Cowboys. Still, the conference has had a string of bad losses over the past two weeks.

There are some good teams in the Conference USA, but for the most part the conference is not that great, as was expected at the beginning of the year. The first two weeks of the season for the conference were clearly flukes, but to be fair, it’s still much better than the MAC or Sun Belt.
