Mississippi State Jumps Into Top 5 in Saturday Blitz Week 4 Top 25 Rankings

5 of 6

10. Ole Miss Rebels: 3-0 (1-0), Idle Last Saturday

Last Week’s Position: No. 10

As the Ole Miss Rebels took last saturday off, they learned they weren’t the only Mississippi school that plays football. Still, the Rebels have looked nearly perfect since that rough first half to start the season against Boise State on that opening Thursday night. A home game against a surprisingly good Memphis team this weekend will be another good test before Alabama next week.

9. Nebraska Cornhuskers: 4-0 (0-0), Defeated Miami 41-31 Last Saturday

Last Week’s Position: No. 20

The Nebraska Cornhuskers were on the verge of losing all respect due to the struggles they had with McNeese State. All of that has been put aside now. Miami isn’t a great team, but it is a good team, and given the Big Ten struggles, it’s nice to see the Huskers at 4-0 right now and in position to compete for the Big Ten championship. Saturday was a solid enough win to put them in the Top 10.

8. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: 3-0, Idle Last Saturday

Last Week’s Position: No. 6

The Irish unfortunately had to drop this weekend a bit despite not playing due to the rise of some other teams and the fact that their win over Michigan now doesn’t look as good. But they are still in the thick of the college football playoff race with Syracuse coming to town this weekend and a game agains Stanford next week, so there are plenty of chances to move up.

7. Oklahoma Sooners: 4-0 (1-0), Defeated West Virginia 45-33 Last Saturday

Last Week’s Position: No. 8

The Sooners finally had an impressive enough win to show that they belong in the Top 10. Playing in Morgantown, W. Va. on a Saturday night against a very good West Virginia team is no easy task, and Oklahoma controlled the entire second half. It was a nice site to see, and perhaps this team is as good as advertised. At least in the running game.

6. Texas A&M Aggies 4-0 (1-0), Defeated SMU 58-6 Last Saturday

Last Week’s Position: No. 1

It doesn’t make much sense to drop the Aggies from No. 1 to No. 6 after another blowout win, but you can only blowout bad teams and hang on to one quality win for so long. By this point, everybody ahead of them has better wins. The Aggies will have their chances to move back up, but for right now, their bad non-conference schedule can’t be ignored.
