Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 4
1. Florida State Seminoles, 3-0 (1-0), Defeated Clemson Tigers 23-17 in Overtime Last Saturday
No, needing overtime to beat Clemson is not enough to knock the Florida State Seminoles off of their rightfully earned No. 1 spot in the conference right now. In fact, more than anything, it shows that this championship team can find ways to win with any distractions.
Clemson is still a very good team, and the Seminoles’ backup quarterback Sean Maguire had three days to prepare as a starter, so the mistakes he made in the game are very forgivable. Not to mention, this team had to change its game plan with a new quarterback in as well.
But Florida State’s star players stepped up in big moments. Maguire made plays as the backup, Rashad Green stepped up at receiver as he has done so much in this young season for a crucial game-changing touchdown play, and defensive tackle Eddie Goldman made three huge plays at the end of the game that saved the Seminoles. Sure, they needed a bit of luck, but there was some luck that went against this team as well. They still pulled out the victory with a back-up quarterback, and if anything they even further legitimized themselves as the top team in this conference and possibly this country.
