Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 4

13. Syracuse Orange, 2-1 (0-0), Lost to Maryland Terrapins 34-20 Last Saturday

It’s hard to get a read on Scott Shafer’s second team at Syracuse only three games into the season. But all we do know is that the Orange had to escape Villanova, an FCS school, in overtime for their first win, and their only other win is a blowout against Central Michigan.

A bad loss to Maryland this past weekend gives off the impression that this is not a very good team, but there is still some good young talent everywhere. However, Syracuse has no passing game to speak of right now, and that’s keeping it from scoring many points.

So for that, they belong near the bottom of our ACC Power Rankings so far this year, even if they are good enough to move up the lists as the season goes on. The defense is okay but not great, and about the only thing the Orange can rely on right now is a good running game. That won’t be enough as they get set for ACC play, and with Notre Dame coming to town this weekend, the team had better correct its issues quickly.
