Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 4
12. North Carolina Tar Heels, 2-1 (0-0), Lost to East Carolina Pirates 70-41 Last Saturday
It may be a little unfair to put the Tar Heels all the way down at No. 12 after losing to East Carolina, but it was the way they lost that was so pathetic. The fact that UNC didn’t have a defense was already clear, and coupling that with them going up a very good offense made a recipe for an upset.
But 70-41? That’s pathetic, and it raises a lot of questions about Larry Fedora’s Tar Heels. They had already looked bad in their first two wins, and it looks like that lack of defense finally caught up with them on Saturday.
That’s problematic going into ACC play when you face certain offenses. With road games against Clemson and Notre Dame over two of the next three weeks, the Tar Heels could be in serious trouble. Don’t count out Virginia Tech either, as that offense is great when Michael Brewer doesn’t make stupid mistakes. Georgia Tech, Miami, and Duke are also down the road. UNC has got some serious issues that it needs to work out very quickly. Otherwise this could be a long season.
