9. Virginia Tech Hokies, 2-2 (0-1), Lost to Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 27-24 Last Saturday
What a difference two weeks makes! After making a strong case that they should be at the top of the ACC Power Rankings coming off of an upset over the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Virginia Tech Hokies have managed to string together two straight losses.
Although those losses are against pretty good teams in Georgia Tech and East Carolina, the Hokies were supposed to prove that Beamer-Ball is back and they are once again among the college football powerhouse programs. That clearly didn’t happen.
Virginia Tech continues to move the ball and play well, but Michael Brewer once again made too many crucial mistakes that cost the Hokies the game. This time, he threw 3 interceptions, including one late in the fourth quarter with the game tied that set up the Yellow Jackets to mount a drive for the game-winning field goal. The defense also comes up small in big moments. They allowed Georgia Tech, an option offense, to convert three crucial passing plays that won the game in the fourth quarter. All of this has to improve for the Hokies to get back on track.
