Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 4

2. Mississippi State Bulldogs, 4-0 (1-0), Defeated LSU Tigers 34-29 Last Saturday

Yes, the Bulldogs deserve to be this high in our Week 4 SEC Power Rankings. In fact, I had to talk myself out of putting them at the top spot, and that might have been the wrong thing to do. Mississippi State didn’t just beat LSU in Death Valley on a Saturday night, the toughest situation for a college football team, and destroyed them. LSU fans had to be sent home late, and the game only became close thanks to a few fluke plays.

With Dan Mullen’s coaching and Dak Prescott behind center, this offense looks as good as ever, and the defense looked great as well. LSU was a quality victory when you consider that the Tigers beat Wisconsin three weeks before, so this is not a win that should be shoved aside. Mississippi State went in and dominated from start to finish. They looked like the better team, pure and simple, and it looks as though this is a very good team. The Bulldogs have a body of work right now that can stand toe-to-toe with anybody in this conference, and that is why we have moved them so far up in our SEC Power Rankings.
