Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 4

10. Florida Gators, 3-1 (1-1), Lost to Alabama Crimson Tide 42-21 Last Saturday

For a brief period of time last Saturday, we actually had reason to believe that Will Muschamp’s Gators were finally turning a corner with Jeff Driskel at quarterback. What a joke that was. Florida’s defense got thoroughly beat down by Lane Kiffin’s Alabama offense with Blake Sims at quarterback, and Jacob Coker coming in to throw a touchdown pass himself only adds insult to injury. Oh, and they gave up 201 yards to Amari Cooper.

All of this spells bad news for the Gators because as bad as the offense has been, you could always trust the defense to be reliable. Driskel’s accuracy still came and went on Saturday, but the defense rolled over and died when things got tough. Muschamp’s seat is only going to get hotter as the season goes on if that continues. Florida has a bye this week, but a loss to Tennessee next week could really spell serious trouble for the Gators. They desperately want to avoid that. Driskel and the offense have to get more consistent, and the defense has to be as good as advertised if this is going to be a good team going forward.
