Saturday Blitz Big Ten Power Rankings Week 4

13. Northwestern Wildcats, 1-2 (0-0), Defeated Western Illinois Leathernecks 24-7 Last Saturday

If Purdue wasn’t going to be at the bottom of these power rankings, Northwestern would belong there. They may have reached their first win last Saturday, but the Wildcats have been a major disappointment so far this season after starting the year 0-2 despite being expected to turn things around.

Saturday’s win against Western Illinois may have helped a bit as they try to turn things around, but it wasn’t that pretty of a win. Beating an FCS school 24-7 doesn’t show any reason to move up any power rankings list, especially when your first two losses are against mediocre teams that were not expected to do anything this year.

Pat Fitzgerald’s team has a lot to be depressed about right now, but just like Purdue, there’s a great chance to change all of that going into this weekend with a road game against the Penn State Nittany Lions. If the Wildcats can pull out an upset there or at least hang tough, they’ll gain some respect back. But for right now, they have been a big letdown this season.
