Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 4

2. Baylor Bears, 3-0 (0-0), Idle Last Saturday

The Bears still haven’t really proven anything from a quality wins perspective, but they have annihilated everybody on their schedule so far, putting up basketball scores. Of course, only 45 points in a 45-0 win against SMU to open the season wasn’t enough, so they needed to have a 70-6 win and put up 63 points in another win against Buffalo to put some style on it.

This is a video game team that certainly knows how to play football, and Bryce Petty is ready to kick off his Heisman campaign. After a bye week, opening Big 12 play up against the Iowa State Cyclones is a great chance for that as long as he can stay healthy.

What stuck out for the Bears through at least the first two games, though, was how good the defense looked, and the same was holding true in the third game against Buffalo. But the Bulls did manage 21 points in the second half after Baylor called off the dogs, so depth could be an issue with this defense. Questions about that, injuries, and the lack of quality wins are the main reasons they aren’t No. 1 this week, but that could change quickly.
