Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 4

8. Texas Longhorns, 1-2 (0-0), Idle Last Saturday

You could make a case for the Longhorns being below the Cyclones given how many players they are missing thanks to injuries and Charlie Strong’s incessant need to suspend or kick off players for just about anything. And their blowout loss to BYU is another reason to drop them.

But the Longhorns, unlike the Cyclones have lost to two top 25 teams and no FCS programs. Even if North Texas isn’t a great win, they looked good blowing that team out, and that’s technically the most experienced team in college football.

Strong’s Longhorns also played UCLA tougher than anybody has so far, but that’s not saying too much given how the Bruins struggled through their first three games. There is still plenty of talent on this team, despite all the dismissals, though. A road game against Kansas this week is a chance for them to get back on track, but if they lose again, then we’ll know for sure that the dismissals and suspensions have caught up.
