Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 4

3. Kansas State Wildcats, 2-1 (1-0), Lost to Auburn Tigers 20-14 Last Thursday

More than knocking Auburn, let’s give credit to the Wildcats for how they played last Thursday night against Auburn. This is a Big 12 defense that gave the Tigers offense fits until the fourth quarter, when Nick Marshall was able to come through the way he always seems to be able to do in crunch time.

The Wildcats, though, still deserve lots of respect for how well they played throughout the game, and if it weren’t for quite a few untimely mistakes they couldn’t have won that game. We have still learned that Tyler Lockett has superstar talent if he gets more consistent, Jake Waters can play well as long as he limits mistakes, and Bill Snyder is definitely able to adapt his style to the new age.

This is definitely a team worthy of being in the Top 25, and it looks like it’ll be good enough to compete with the best of the Big 12 as the season goes on. That’s why the Wildcats belong at No. 3 on this list for right now. A home game against UTEP is the final game for them to tune up, though, as the real tests begin after that with Texas Tech and Oklahoma as the first two conference games. We’ll find out very soon if they can give the top of this conference a run for their money.
