Saturday Blitz Vegas Big 12 Predictions Week 5

TCU Horned Frogs at SMU Mustangs

Line: TCU by 31.5

What a sad story this game is. A longtime rivalry game between two former Southwest Conference powers has turned into a game between one team proving itself among the elite of college football and another dealing with threats of giving up its football program. At 2-0, the Horned Frogs are slowly in the process of building a team ready to compete on college football’s biggest stage in a Power Five conference. Gary Patterson’s squad has an amazing defense and a good passing game, which could be the ingredients to success throughout the season. Against SMU this weekend, they’ll want to use that passing attack to get a quick and early lead before turning to the run game and defense to get out quickly with a win.

The Mustangs, meanwhile, are just plain bad everywhere. To be fair, they’ve played two Top 10 teams and a very experienced mid-major team so far, but they’ve lost those games on averaged by more than 44 points. Essentially, prayer and luck is what is going to be needed to pull off a victory on Saturday.

Prediction

TCU will get a lead early and never look back. The Horned Frogs will use Trevone Boykin and a host of good receivers to get ahead quickly in the first quarter against that bad SMU defense, and Patterson will use his defense and the running game to get a blowout win and end the game early.

TCU: 38 SMU: 3
