Michigan: Fire Brady Hoke Now! Bring In…

facebooktwitterreddit

Before you scroll down to see who is the best recommendation for Brady Hoke’s replacement, let me say that the first incantation, the ‘Fire Brady Hoke Now!’ mantra isn’t a suggestion but an order. Is there really a need for an article of words to go over this? FBHN should be yelled out not only in Ann Arbor but on any college campus where football means something. Purists, students of the game, and even just Joe Schmo who might not know a thing about college football need to be yelling this from the rooftops before Michigan football becomes irrelevant in the pantheons of gridiron lore.

I didn’t want to get all nostalgic on you but this is an emergency. Hired in 2011 and having a decent season and beating Ohio State that year, Brady Hoke seemed like the natural fit in Wolverine land. Every year since though, the Hokester has gotten worse: 11-2, 8-5, 7-6. It was enough of a bad slide that coach was placed on ‘The Hot Seat’ of college coaches going into 2014 with the likes of Will Muschamp at Florida, Bret Bielema at Arkansas, and Dana Holgersen at West Virginia. Only Muschamp’s seat maybe hotter than Hoke’s. Chants of ‘Fire Brady!’ were heard during their latest loss in The Big House this past Saturday to Minnesota. It was only replaced intermittently by chants of ‘Fire Brandon!’ which is in reference to the Athletic Director at Michigan Dave Brandon, another catastrophe that needs to be run off as well.

  • So what has happened to Michigan Football? How can this be reversed? Are the Wolverines in danger of going over the cliff like Miami Hurricanes 95-97 or Oklahoma 94-98? Once great programs that have seen recent resurgence but not without having to ‘clean house’ in order to get there. At least there were NCAA sanctions to blame as a part of those programs’ decline. But when those two school’s hit rock bottom, a great coach was just around the bend. After that 95-97 debacle, Miami got Larry Coker and won the 2001 National Title. Same goes for Oklahoma. Their low point had to be Nebraska 69-OU 7 in 1997. Bob Stoops happened next and in 2000, the Sooners won the title against Florida State. So don’t fret Wolverine fans, this can be rectified if done properly.

Michigan can and should wipe the slate clean effectively and soon while the weight of Michigan Football means something. Or has it already gone over the cliff? For the Minnesota game, fans who purchased $3 worth of Coca Cola products were given two tickets to watch the game. A game that saw Michigan amass 171 total yards and 3.0 rush average. Yeah I’d be thinking the same thing too: What I could have done with that 3 dollars? Michigan officials claim that there was a ‘miscommunication’ and the promotion was immediately pulled, but not before it sold out.

    Jim Harbaugh and Les Miles

Let’s just throw those two names out there. We’ll start with Harbaugh. With him Michigan has the greatest chance of creating a lasting legacy. Former Wolverine quarterback in the 80’s, Jim Harbaugh is the current coach with the San Francisco 49ers and is a good one. He was however a great college coach as well, bringing Stanford back to prominence which still ripples today. Word has it that there’s no love lost between Harbaugh and the Frisco front office and since the Niners have started 1-2 in a season where they were and still are a Super Bowl favorite in many eyes, Michigan fans can hope that this NFL team implodes in 2014 in order to get Harbaugh, one of their most famous alums.

In Les Miles you get the Mad Hatter. You’d have to go back to natural grass instead of that Field Turf, cause Lester likes to drink green smoothies made from LSU’s grass. Eccentric, electric, but most of all successful is what describes LSU’s front man. He’s always been able to get contract extensions whenever the Michigan job comes up and why not? He played there under Bo Schembechler in 74-75 and coached there under Bo from 87-94.

Miles just seems like what the doctor ordered for the Michigan program, but then again Harbaugh does too. Not a ‘no-name’ coach that’s hot right now, cause the Michigan faithful won’t buy into it. They need a proven winner. LSU getting beat by Mississippi State in Baton Rouge helps. San Francisco having a downturn year as well brings about rumors of Harbaugh coming back. But first things first: Don’t wait Michigan till the end of the year to fire Brady Hoke and Dave Brandon. The season is a wash. Slap an Interim tag on the waterboy if you have to. You know the guy, the one bringing in the 3 dollar cokes and selling his ‘free tickets.’ I don’t even think he wants to be a part of this mess.

    “Fire Brady Hoke Now!”
