Blitz Points: College Football Top Performers From Week 5
Saturday Blitz Blitz Points Winners Week 5
9. Connor Halliday, Quarterback, Washington State Cougars (Defeated Utah Utes 28-27)- 39 of 61 for 417 Passing Yards and 4 Touchdowns
In a Mike Leach-coached system, Connor Halliday’s numbers Saturday don’t really stand out. But when you take into consideration the magnitude of the win at Utah, then it makes sense for him to earn Blitz Points this week. The Cougars were down 24-7 at halftime and 27-14 in the fourth quarter, and make no mistake about it, Halliday is the reason they came back.
Washington State was 1-3 at the time and on the verge of a lost season, so leading that comeback literally saved them this year. Yes, the 81-yard touchdown pass to go up had a lot more to do with Vince Mayle than it did Halliday, but Halliday still made a great throw. He also had two fourth down touchdown passes in the game where the Cougars had to make a play, and he made a great throw each time.
On top of everything else, Halliday showed he is clutch and can lead a team back in a very calm manner. Washington State is now back in the race for a bowl game despite a horrendous, and that has a lot to do with Halliday. For that, he is one of our college football top performers and a well-deserved Blitz Points winner.
