Blitz Points: College Football Top Performers From Week 5
Saturday Blitz Blitz Points Winners Week 5
4. Peter Kalambayi, Outside Linebacker, Stanford Cardinal (Defeated Washington Huskies 20-13)-6 Tackles, 3 Sacks
Peter Kalambayi’s numbers don’t stick out at you the way other players’ numbers on this list do, and they don’t even stick out as much as those from some other Stanford defenders who weren’t on this list did. But his sacks stick out.
Against a Pac 12 team that is known for running the ball and putting up 40 points that way under new head coach Chris Petersen, Kalambayi was able to knock 35 yards off of the Washington rushing attack with 3 huge sacks and 6 key tackles overall. Those sacks kept the Huskies at 81 rushing yards total throughout the game, which is a big reason they ended up losing the game.
And Kalambayi came through in the most important moment of the game as well. With the Huskies down by a touchdown and in Stanford territory late in the fourth quarter, Kalambayi forced Huskies quarterback Cyler Miles into an intentional grounding penalty for a 12-yard loss and his third sack of the game on 2nd down. That forced a 3rd and 22 and ultimately a 4th and 18 that the Huskies couldn’t convert, saving the game for the Cardinal. For that Kalambayi is a Blitz Points winner.
