See if Alabama Kept its No. 1 Status in Week 5 SEC Power Rankings
Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 5
5. Ole Miss Rebels, 4-0 (1-0), Defeated Memphis Tigers 24-3 Last Saturday
With an undefeated record and having blown out all four teams by at least 21 points, the Ole Miss Rebels currently look like the most complete team in the SEC. But those blowouts have not been against anybody, and the lack of quality wins puts them at No. 5 in the conference for right now.
Boise State and Memphis were the two best wins on the resume, and while both are decent teams, the Broncos are a shell of what they used to be, and the Tigers are just barely coming up after years of pathetic futility. Hugh Freeze’s squad can’t get too much credit for those wins. The good news is there is nothing to point to that draws concern about the defense on this team. The offense appears as if it may sputter at times but always seems to get going at some point in the game. The talent that Freeze recruited is finally showing up.
Now, the Rebels finally get a real test. We’ll find out how legitimate they are this Saturday against Alabama, and you can bet they won’t accept a moral victory. Not with the 4-0 start and the other Mississippi school making more noise than them right now. The Rebels had better show up, or they’ll drop down this list.
