Top 25: SEC West Still Dominates Saturday Blitz College Football Rankings
Saturday Blitz Top 25
The Top 25 in college football is finally starting to take shape. It’s not that it can’t dramatically change anymore, but the criteria for judging the teams has shortened.
With almost every team having played four or five games, preseason hype and expectations finally don’t have to be factored into the equation. There is enough to judge teams based on merit.
So far this season, we’ve learned that the SEC is the dominant conference, as expected, and the SEC West is the dominant division, as expected. There are seven SEC teams in the Top 25 this week, and six came from the west.
The Big 12 has five teams in the Top 25, the Pac 12 has four teams in the Top 25, the Big Ten has three teams in the Top 25, and the ACC has two teams in the Top 25. There are also two independents and two mid-majors.

With the First Pick
As we get set to provide you with our Week 5 Top 25, it’s also important for us to admit that in addition to not factoring in preseason hype, this is the first week we’ll try to minimize margin of victory as much as possible. These are not power rankings, but where we think teams should be ranked based on the body of work, which is what the Top 25 is about.
That being said, while there is enough information to eliminate preseason hype, there isn’t enough information to completely eliminate margin of victory yet. So we’ve put it back in along with record, schedule strength, and head to head. And this week, we have now reached a point where undefeated teams are automatically in the Top 25.
So here is the Saturday Blitz Top 25 for Week 5 of the college football season.
