Top 25: SEC West Still Dominates Saturday Blitz College Football Rankings
5. Mississippi State Bulldogs, 4-0 (1-0), Idle Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 5
The Mississippi State Bulldogs still have the best win among anybody on this list, and it should have been a blowout win before LSU managed to make it close at the end. The offense looks like a complete unit with Dak Prescott leading the way, and the defense looks great as well. Dan Mullen has a dangerous team in Starkville that once again has a chance to prove itself this weekend against Texas A&M.
4. Texas A&M Aggies, 5-0 (2-0), Defeated Arkansas Razorbacks 35-28 in Overtime Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 6
The Texas A&M Aggies deserved a bit of a jump after that OT win against the Razorbacks. Arkansas is a tough, good team, and for Kevin Sumlin, Kenny Hill, and the rest of the players to be able to rally the way they did, it shows just how tough this group is. Mississippi State is going to be a tougher test, but for right now, the Aggies deserve lots of respect.
3. Oregon Ducks, 4-0 (1-0), Idle Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 3
Mississippi State may have the best win of anybody in the Top 25, but Oregon is not far behind with its blowout win against Michigan State. Also, struggling against Washington State doesn’t look as bad either after the way the Cougars played last week. The Ducks are still a complete team that now really get to prove how great they are with Arizona and UCLA as their next two games.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide, 4-0 (1-0), Idle Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 2
The Tide are still clearly the most talented team in college football, and the transition to being more of an offensive threat this year has gone pretty smooth with how well Blake Sims has been playing. Alabama begins the heart of SEC play this weekend against Ole Miss to grab a quality win that would put them No. 1 in body of work as well, not just talent.
1. Florida State Seminoles, 4-0 (2-0), Defeated N.C. State Wolfpack 56-41 Last Saturday
Last Week’s Position: No. 1
Before we freak out that Florida State struggled with N.C. State early on, can we say they dominated late in the game once they got focused? Can we also point out N.C. State was undefeated up to that point? It wasn’t a bad win. Florida State’s win against Oklahoma State is starting to look really good now as well, and coupling those two with the win against Clemson without Jameis Winston means that while other teams in our rankings may have one great win, the Seminoles have at least three really good ones. That’s enough to keep them at No. 1.
