Saturday Blitz Big Ten Power Rankings Week 5

2. Michigan State Spartans, 3-1 (0-0), Defeated Wyoming Cowboys 56-14 Last Saturday

Michigan State has still not proven itself against a good team, but Wyoming is a pesky team under Craig Bohl, and the Spartans still deserve credit for giving Oregon a game until the fourth quarter. Yes, Washington State gave Oregon a game, but the Ducks were more focused against the Spartans.

This is a team that is slowly getting better, and don’t ignore the fact that it’s ranked third in the country with 50 points a game on offense. How has it gotten that average? Through a balanced attack marked by 252 rushing yards and 263 passing yards per game. That balanced attack could be very hard to stop going forward with Big Ten play beginning this week.

We’ll find out a lot about where the Spartans belong immediately with Nebraska coming to town on Saturday. They could either shoot up or fall down this list, but we can say with certainty that we will have a better read on Michigan State after this weekend. Still, for now it deserves this No. 2 spot.
