Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 5

3. Louisville Cardinals, 4-1 (2-1), Defeated Wake Forest Demon Deacons 20-10 Last Saturday

The Louisville Cardinals still have that loss to Virginia hanging over their heads, but this Bobby Petrino-coached team is still a great team that should not have too many mistake-prone games like that throughout the rest of the season. Last week’s win against Wake Forest was ugly, but at least it got them back on track in ACC play.

What stands out most about this Louisville team is that it’s a Petrino team that is winning with defense. The Cardinals have the No. 9 ranked scoring defense in the country right now, remarkably only giving up 14 points per game. When you consider the fact that the offense is putting up just over 34 points a game, this team could easily be undefeated and making lots of noise throughout the country right now. The talent and coaching are certainly there.

Now Louisville travels to Syracuse this week, but then it has a great chance to show how good it is with a road game against Clemson and later on games against Florida State and Notre Dame. Those games will give us a great read on how good this team actually is, but so far things are looking great.
