Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 5

8. Virginia Cavaliers, 3-2 (1-0), Defeated Kent State Golden Flashes 45-13 Last Saturday

It’s time to acknowledge that these Virginia Caveliers are legitimate in head coach Mike London’s fifth season. This is a 3-2 team that could easily be 5-0, and although last week’s win was just against Kent State, it was a blowout win that fans, players, and coaches should be happy about.

The Cavaliers have a defense that can’t be ignored right now, and London is using balance on offense to pick up wins. Also, he’s finally got them limiting turnovers, which obviously cost them the first game of the year against a very good UCLA Bruins team. Playing high-powered offenses such as UCLA, Louisville, and BYU on your schedule and only giving up on average 23 points a game on the season is remarkable as well.

Going forward, this team is definitely capable of making a bowl game with Pitt and UNC on the schedule, but it will still have to pull off an upset somewhere else, maybe Duke on the road. For right now, though, they belong in the No. 8 spot and have a great chance to move up over the next few weeks.
