Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 5

1. Oklahoma Sooners, 4-0 (1-0), Idle Last Saturday

They may not have played on Saturday, but the Oklahoma Sooners still have a much more quality victory over West Virginia than TCU or Baylor does when it comes to comparing undefeated Big 12 teams. Therefore, the Sooners still belong in the top spot of our Big 12 Power Rankings right now. And Tennessee is improving to where it could look like a quality when as well, especially since the Vols almost beat Georgia two weeks after the Sooners blew them out 34-10.

This is a very strong team that doesn’t even have to be led by Trevor Knight. The story so far is the discovery of freshman running back Samaje Perine, who stepped up right at the time he was needed to help the Sooners pull out a huge win in their first Big 12 game of the year against a very good team. Perine could be the driving force behind the offense that keeps it in this spot, and the defense should be fine throughout the year, especially the front seven.

With a road trip to TCU this weekend, one of the Big 12 undefeated teams is falling, and the Sooners have a chance to make even more of a statement. After that they get a down Texas team in the Red River shootout, but that’s still a rivalry game, so you never know what could happen. Kansas State is next on the list, so we will know a lot more about this team after Oct. 18.
