Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 5

9. Iowa State Cyclones, 1-3 (0-2), Lost to Baylor Bears 49-28 Last Saturday

While the Kansas Jayhawks are clearly the worst team in the Big 12, the Iowa State Cyclones aren’t that far behind. Iowa State simply had us fooled for a couple of weeks because they beat in-state rival Iowa and barely lost to Kansas State. But after a blowout loss to Baylor, it’s easier for us to see that Iowa was overrated and Kansas State was just screwing around until it mattered. Remember, the Cyclones have now been blown out by the Bears and an FCS school in North Dakota State.

This is a terrible offense, ranking 102nd in the country with 22.5 points per game, and the defense is just as bad, giving up 33 points per game. At 1-3, there is barely any hope for a bowl game for this team, especially given the fact that there is not one aspect of football it has yet looked good in this season on offense or defense. This is simply not a good team, and it right now is in a fight with Kansas for last in the Big 12.

And things don’t look better with the schedule, which includes a game against Oklahoma State this week. At least they get a break next week with Toledo, but it’s hard to see the Cyclones better than 2-4 going into the meat of Big 12 play, so they are in some serious trouble the rest of the season.
