Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 5

6. West Virginia Mountaineers,  2-2 (0-1), Idle Last Saturday

It is true that West Virginia hasn’t had a chance to redeem itself after the loss to Oklahoma, and it’s also true that this team is 2-2. But the Mountaineers have also played the hardest schedule of anybody in the Big 12 up to this point, and despite 2 losses, they also have a very good win on the road against the Maryland Terrapins. That win is looking better each week.

Clint Trickett is still on this team and looks like he might have the deadliest accuracy of anybody in the NFL. While it is true that the rush defense has become a major concern in their last two games, the passing game and offensive line have been very good. It’s good enough, in fact, to move this team up the list in our Big 12 Power Rankings in the future if they get more chances to prove themselves further. Right now, they are still flying under the radar.

But this team could have beaten Oklahoma had the Sooners not found a running back at the perfect time, and it has still played the Alabama Crimson Tide better than anybody else has this year. So getting ready to start the heart of the Big 12 schedule, it’s time for the Mountaineers to prove to everybody how good they are.
