4. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 3-1 (1-0), Defeated Texas Tech Red Raiders 45-35 Last Thursday

After gaining respect by playing the Florida State Seminoles to a one-score loss, the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Mike Gundy gained more respect last Thursday night against a Texas Tech Red Raiders team that is very tough to beat. Gundy continues to prove how good his system is after he had to replace nearly his entire offense this year, and his new quarterback, J.W. Walsh, had to be replaced due to injury by Daxx Garman.

But Gundy’s teams are simply putting up points each week. For three straight weeks they have put up 40 points, and they have yet to play a game where they didn’t have more than 30. That’s actually remarkable given the amount of players that had to be replaced at the beginning of the year, and the Cowboys have clearly proven themselves as a team to be taken seriously the rest of the year. The defense hasn’t even played bad in the system this year, despite the style making games prone to more shootouts.

With Iowa State and Kansas next, the Cowboys have a great chance to head into an epic showdown at TCU on October 18 at 5-1 and undefeated in Big 12 play. Later in the year, if they win the games through the month of October, they’ll have a chance to prove if they are one of the elite Big 12 teams. But for now, we have to keep them at No. 4 since they have a loss.
