Vegas Pac 12 Predictions Week 5

Oregon State Beavers at Colorado Buffaloes

Line: Oregon State by 6.5

This game could be more intriguing than you might expect. Oregon State has been highly disappointing in the one thing we were looking forward to seeing from them this year: a very strong passing game. The team is 3-1, but after losing to USC 35-10 on Saturday, the lack of great play from Sean Mannion had to come into questions. With barely more than 250 passing yards a game and 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on the season, this is not the Mannion we expected to see. The defense is fine, but with no rushing game, the passing game has to carry the offense. Against a Colorado team that can definitely score, Mannion has to come ready to play for the Beavers to win.

The Buffaloes, meanwhile, continue to show they are getting better and took another step last week by coming very close to upsetting Cal. This team has a very good offense with Sefo Liufau at quarterback, and that is what’s going to be needed to beat this team. Unfortunately, there’s no Colorado defense to speak of yet, while the Beavers have a pretty good defense. That means the Buffaloes could have trouble turning this game into the shootout they want, but remember that in Oregon State’s only real test, USC scored easily on them. Perhaps Colorado will be capable of doing the same.

Prediction

Oregon State will finally get Sean Mannion going in this game, and the offense will do more than enough to win. The defense will struggle and allow Colorado to hang around, but eventually it will stiffen up so Oregon State’s offense is able to pull away with a pretty comfortable win.

Oregon State: 45 Colorado: 31
