Vegas SEC Predictions Week 6

Vanderbilt Commodores at No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs

Line: Georgia by 33.5

Here’s an SEC game that might not be one of the most intense game on the schedule this weekend, but it’s still worthing checking up on. The Georgia Bulldogs continue to look like a one-man show with Todd Gurley, and Gurley single-handedly led the Bulldogs to victory against Tennessee, looking like the best player in football. Gurley will need a breather this weekend against Vanderbilt so he can be saved for the season, but for the Dawgs to do that, Hutson Mason finally has to show up at quarterback, and the defense has to be consistent. Those are two issues that have been facing the team since the first game.

Vanderbilt, meanwhile, shouldn’t worry about Gurley. You know he is going to get his numbers no matter what you do, so why even worry about it if Georgia decides to use him a lot? Instead, use the newly improved defense to force Mason into making the mistakes he’s made all year. If that happens, with the right quarterback, Derek Mason’s Commodores could build a lead, and knowing that Georgia doesn’t have a passing game yet to speak of, that could be enough for them to pull off a huge upset on the road. But it’s not likely.

Prediction

Georgia won’t win the game by 33 or 34 points, so don’t bet on them to cover the spread, but they’ll have an easy win against an improving but still bad Vanderbilt team. In Athens, Gurley will put up some numbers, but Mark Richt and the offensive staff will spend time trying to develop the passing game more and save Gurley for when he’s truly needed.

Georgia: 31 Vanderbilt: 7
